以前私は友人から

｢娘が二つの大学に合格したのだがどちらにいれたらいいのだろう?｣

と相談されました。

私が｢どこの大学に受かったの?｣と聞くと

｢ハーバードとスタンフォード｣という答えが返ってきました。

どちらも世界トップクラスの大学です。

それにしてもどのようにして合格させたのでしょうか?

私は気になって訪ねました。

友人は｢特に何もしていない｣とのこと。

ただ、彼は娘さんに
幼い頃からなんでも説明させてきたそうです。

それを聞いて私は納得しました。

子供は｢赤信号でなぜ止まらないといけないか｣などと

何気ない疑問をいだきます。

そこで｢どうして止まらないといけないと思う?｣

と説明させるのです。

もし子どもが｢危ないから｣と説明すると

そこで｢なぜ危ないの?｣と、さらに問いかけます。

そうやってどんどん説明させるのです。

仮に相手の答えが間違っていても構いません。

とにかく疑問を持ってどんどん説明させるのです。

最初は戸惑うでしょうが、

慣れてくると次第によどみなく答えるようになってくるはずです。
